i like sXe

No, that’s not a typo error in the heading. Yes, I know how to spell the word. S-E-X. See? I like that too. But that’s not what I’m talking about. Not today anyway.

Now.

So you thought Rock n’ Roll was all about sex, booze and drugs, an epic of extremities. Right? Well, wrong. There actually is a movement in the history of Rock n’ Roll, a sub-culture if you will, that advocates strict abstinence from smoking, alcohol consumption, promiscuous sex and especially, drugs. It’s called the Straight Edge movement.

XXX is the visual symbol of this countercultural movement. It symbolises the ‘Don’t smoke. Don’t drink. Don’t fuck’ philosophy of Ian MacKaye, the voice of punk rock outfit Minor Threat and Fugazi, and a leading figure of this movement.

"Straight Edge" is sometimes also depicted by sXe (s=Straight, e=Edge, and the ‘X’).

Still wanna be a rock star?

Dear Man-Boy Manish M

Thanks for visiting my blog, The favor has been returned. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any errors in currency nomenclature on your post, or I would have been smart Alec and said so.

Sigh. Oh, well. Shall copy-paste this self-same post on your other site. Ta.

Hi,

Randomly came across your blog, and couldn't help comment on a post that name-checks Fugazi/Ian McKaye. Whatever his ideals may be, the music is fantastic.

Nice blog. :)
