i recently watched...

A Scanner Darkly, a fantastic animated movie, albeit with a complex plot. It's based on a novel of the same name by Philip K. Dick and tries to document the effects of a drug called Substance D on a Narc (played by Keanu Reaves) and his girl friend/friends (played by Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson). Philip K. Dick was a seminal American Sci-Fi author in the 70's, better known for being the author of 'Blade Runner', which was also converted into a superb movie of the same name. Coming back to the movie, you may lose the meaning if you don't pay close attention. However, the animation style is rather unique, something called Rotoscoping, which involves shooting the complete movie and then tracing over the film, frame by frame. The final result is extremely realistic (You can identify all the characters, and if you view it from a distance or slightly blurred, it would appear to be a film and not an animation). Its almost like watching a comic in motion. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
